Winding jig 1

Description

This is the piece of equipment I designed for making chainmail rings.
The jig is made of 24ft of 2x4 it is designed to support 200lbs of wire although only 30lbs are loaded. The height is set up so that I can use most chairs to sit while working.
The winding rod (better pictures elsewhere in the album) is a 1/2in steel rod. I used map gas to bend the rod and drilled a hole so that I do not need a clap to attach the wire.

The scale of this jig is certainly impressive, and a great piece of woodworking. I'm wondering if it wouldn't wind better with something to put tension on the wire before it coils, though.

Mailleartisans.org is a great resource for things like this. Here:

Bottom of the page are several articles on winding.
